Council President’s Message:<\/span><\/em><\/p>

“I believe LULAC should focus on education, health care and promoting equitable job distribution for our community. \u00a0This is because despite the large Latino population in California, we seriously lag behind in both the public and private sectors in these areas.”<\/span><\/p>

We are excited to release a new report, and here is the truth. DACA is not just policy.\u00a0 It is a heartbeat, steady, constant, and easy to take for granted until it is at risk.<\/p>
The Economic Impact of DACA Recipients in the United States shows more than 525,000 people keeping that heartbeat going.\u00a0 Nearly 91% are working.\u00a0<\/strong> They generate about $27.9<\/strong> billion in earnings each year, pay $6 billion<\/strong> in federal taxes and more than $3 billion<\/strong> in state and local taxes, and bring $25.3 billion in spending power into communities across the country.<\/p>
Since the program began, they have paid roughly $40 billion in taxes and helped support up to 188,000 jobs through businesses they own.<\/strong><\/p>
But that heartbeat is not guaranteed.\u00a0 DACA must be renewed every two years.<\/strong>\u00a0 There is no path to citizenship.\u00a0 Courts are still deciding its future.\u00a0 For now, renewals continue, but the uncertainty is constant.<\/p>
The strain is real.\u00a0 About 19,000<\/strong> people<\/strong> renew every month. Processing times are longer.\u00a0 Requirements are tighter.\u00a0 Costs are high.<\/p>
If that heartbeat is disrupted, the consequences will be immediate.\u00a0 Estimates show losses between $351 billion and $1 trillion,<\/strong> and about 450,000 workers pushed out<\/strong> of the economy.<\/p>
